PTTAC Joins Fight Against Misclassified Drivers

At the May PTTAC executive meeting, the executive voted unanimously to join the fight and support the industry in helping with education about Misclassified Drivers (Driver Inc.).

As a first step, PTTAC will be putting together an educational document that can be shared with entry-level Commercial Drivers regarding what being a Misclassified Driver means and why it’s illegal to get involved with a company or identity that wants them to operate illegally.

Commercial truck driving schools educate tens of thousands of drivers across Canada annually, with the end user being the carriers.

Jim Campbell, Chairman of PTTAC, says, “We have a responsibility as educators in our industry to do our part in ensuring every student who enrolls in a commercial truck training school knows that they do not want to become a 'Misclassified Driver’.”

PTTAC will be working with its board of directors, its members, and other like-minded stakeholders to develop educational information that will be consistent and transparent. This document will be shared with entry-level drivers during their time at the school. PTTAC is looking at other tools to help educate the industry on Misclassified Drivers.

“PTTAC understands the importance and value of working with the industry, carriers, insurers, and government to combat the growth of Misclassified Drivers in our industry. This is one small way we can contribute,” says Campbell.
